Welcome to the 2026 State of Conversational Marketing Report. We surveyed 1,200 marketing leaders across 32 countries to understand how AI-powered chat is reshaping the way buyers buy — and the way teams sell.
Key findings
- 73% of marketing leaders now consider conversational AI 'critical' to their growth strategy (up from 28% in 2023)
- Average conversion lift from chat-first funnels: 3.1x
- Median time-to-first-response dropped from 4 hours to 12 seconds
- 62% of teams have replaced or plan to replace their primary contact form with a chatbot in the next 12 months
How buyers want to be talked to
We asked 8,000 B2B buyers a simple question: 'What's your preferred way to engage with a vendor for the first time?' Chat won by a wide margin — 54% of buyers picked it over email, phone, or form.
Even more telling: 71% of buyers said they'd rather get an instant, slightly less-detailed answer than a perfect answer that takes hours.
The shift to AI agents
Last year, AI agents were a buzzword. This year, 41% of teams report deploying at least one autonomous agent in production. Most are running on platforms like FunnelConvo's AI Agents, which can qualify leads, book demos, and update CRMs without human oversight.
Industry breakdown
Adoption varies by vertical. SaaS leads at 81%, followed by e-commerce (67%), agencies (54%), and B2B services (49%). For industry-specific playbooks, see our solutions pages.
